Alvarez-Farinetti, MD
Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti was born in Miami and raised in the Dominican Republic. He graduated from Barry University in Miami and received his medical degree from the Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti completed his internship at the Ponce University Hospital in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and a residency in radiation oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, where he also served as chief resident.

During his training, Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti was actively involved in clinical research protocols using high-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy for the treatment of prostate and breast cancer. He also participated in trials of aggressive twice-daily radiotherapy and chemotherapy for advanced head and neck cancers.

Following completion of his residency, Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti remained at the University of Kansas for four years as an Assistant Professor and as Program Director of the residency training program.

As a faculty member, he initiated a study of radiotherapy with a combined EGFR- and VEGF-inhibitor for the re-treatment of recurrent head and neck cancers and directed the Total Body Irradiation program. Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti also served on a number of university committees, including the Research Review Board, the Medical Faculty Council, the Medical School student admission board, and the accreditation committee for the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology & Oncology (ASTRO), the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group, the Children’s Oncology Group, and the Southwest Oncology Group.

Dr. Alvarez-Farinetti has received extensive training in prostate, breast, and gynecologic brachytherapy, vascular brachytherapy, and Gamma Knife® stereotactic radiosurgery and IMRT.

He is board certified in radiation oncology.
